Cowboy Up for Cancer

May 21, 2022 @ 10:00 am - 5:00 pm

Every day, a firefighter wakes up and goes to work a shift. We in the Fire Service work 24 hour shifts, and a lot can happen in that time. We can be hit on the side of the interstate by a distracted driver, we can be assaulted by a citizen, we can fall through the floor of a burning building. While all these are unforeseeable but possible outcomes, the Fireman’s fight against cancer is something we can prepare for. In 2005, the Firefighter Cancer Support Network was created with the vision of helping the First Responder community through cancer and spreading on-the-job cancer awareness. We are very proud to partner with the Firefighter Cancer Support Network for this exciting event.
As a Firefighter/Paramedic, brotherhood is everything to me. So, Cowboy Up for Cancer is a rodeo competition that Shadow Hills Ranch plans to host every year. 100% of the proceeds goes to the Firefighter Cancer Support Network. I also encourage you to make a small donation yourself at www.firefightercancersupport.org

2-man Sorting

Ranch Sorting is done in two man teams. The objective is to sort, in order, 10 numbered cows (0-9) in the fastest time possible. There is a time limit of 90 seconds (Open) and 120 seconds (Novice) to complete this task.

If a cow is sorted out of order, it is a disqualification (fault).

If a cow that has already been sorted re-enters the sorting pen, it is a disqualification (fault).

No swearing, vulgar behavior, and/or complaining will be tolerated.

All Judge’s decisions are final, and all decisions are at the Judge’s discretion.

Cattle Drive
Cattle Drive is a cattle event where teams of three (3) have to control a small group of five cattle and lead them throughout an obstacle course. This is a judged event that is scored based on how the team handles the cattle and the number of completed tasks.
Event course will be posted a week prior to the event.
Breakaway Shootout

The Breakaway Shootout was an event introduced here at Shadow Hills Ranch during our 2021 Fall Works Ranch Roping. This is an awesome chance for ranch roping competitors to get last minute practice on live cattle prior to their 3-man doctoring (branding) or 1-man doctoring event. It is an elimination style event that was designed to give novice as well as seasoned ropers equal chance of luck to win.  It is a winner-takes-all.

When it is the roper’s turn, they will choose two cards: one card is the target cow’s number, the other is the type of loop that the roper must throw. The roper will have two chances to make a clean catch. If the roper misses the first throw, a new cow number will be assigned. If the roper catches, they advance to the next round. If the roper misses both, they are eliminated.

No swearing, vulgar behavior, and/or complaining will be tolerated.

All Judge’s decisions are final, and all decisions are at the Judge’s discretion.

Special buckles will be awarded to the Overall Champion and Reserve Overall Champion. Ribbons for top three places will be presented to each class winner(s).

All proceeds will be presented and donated to the Firefighter Cancer Support Network.

Entry fees are $20 per event. Unlimited entries for Ranch Sorting and Cattle Drive.
